In an unexpected turn of events, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, faced a second arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).

This action resulted in a clash with officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service, both seeking custody of Emefiele.

Prior to this, Daily News 24 had reported that Emefiele was charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

During the court ruling on Tuesday, Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the secret police, and the court granted him bail set at N20 million.

Following the court ruling, concerns were raised by the counsel to Joseph Daudu that the DSS might intend to rearrest his client.

Despite the court’s decision, a confrontation occurred between DSS operatives and prison officials over the custody of Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The situation escalated and lasted for several minutes, with viral videos on social media showing DSS agents aggressively handling a prison official.

Eventually, the official was released after being forcibly placed into the DSS operatives’ vehicle.

Subsequently, the prison officials left the premises of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, while Emefiele was rearrested by the secret police.
