Mr. Festus Adedayo, the Proprietor of a private nursery and primary school in Ilorin, has advised parents not to leave the training of their children to school teachers alone.
Adedayo, who gave the advice in Ilorin on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said parents had a role to play in shaping the career and future of their children.
According to him, most parents are too busy to give their children sound moral and ethical training.
“Teachers cannot do it alone. Training a child requires joint effort, which comprises parents’ and teachers’ dedication.
“Parents must teach their children basic ethics of life from their childhood.
“How to dress decently, how to relate with the opposite sex and people around, how to obey the laws, and how to be focused in life.
“Stop blaming teachers for the indiscipline of your children. You, as parents, must start first before the teachers take over. Stop expecting teachers to do it alone,” he advised.
The proprietor, however, called on parents to create time for their children, and as well, act as watchdogs to mentor them for life challenges.
He however urged teachers to be of good conduct in their daily endeavor and act as a mentor to their students
