In a resignation letter dated June 27 and addressed to his ward chairman, Mark expressed deep disappointment over the PDP’s current state, describing it as a party plagued by “persistent leadership tussles, deep divisions, and irreconcilable differences” that have tarnished its public image.
According to the former Senate President, his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates, and supporters. He emphasized that despite his longstanding commitment and efforts to reposition the PDP, recent developments have rendered the party ineffective.
Mark has now joined the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, a new political platform aimed at strengthening democratic values and offering an alternative to the current political system.
As part of the coalition’s leadership, Mark has been named interim National Chairman, while former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola will serve as interim National Secretary.
The formation of the coalition is being presented as a unified effort to “rescue the nation” and provide credible opposition ahead of future political contests.
