An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded four job applicants for  alleged possession of firearms and unlawful assembly.

The defendants are Kazeem Yusuf, 28, Ismaila Ajanaku, 35; Abiodun Joseph, 21, and Taye Saliu, 28.

Magistrate M.O. Daudu, who did not take their pleas, ordered that they should be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Daudu directed the police to send the case file to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 18 for mention .

The defendants  are facing charges of conspiracy, unlawful assembly and unlawful possession of firearms.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Rachael Williams, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with some others at large, on Dec. 10  at 1.00 p.m. at Mosafejo Road, Agbowa,  Ikorodu, Lagos.

Williams said that the police caught the  defendants with three locally-made single-barrel guns and two live cartridges, which they could not give account of.

She added  that the defendants belonged to a secret society called ‘Eiye confraternity’.

Williams said that the offences contravened Sections 2(3)(a)(b)(c)(d) of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021 and Sections 330(d) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
