An Islamic cleric, Abdulmumeen Alaya, has cautioned traders against

arbitrary hike in the price of essential commodities ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Alaya made the call on Friday while speaking on preparations for Eid in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
He said, “Any provocative increase in the price of commodities during the festival because of the increase in demand will bring untold hardship to many Nigerians.”
He specifically advised ram and cattle dealers to be considerate with Muslims, wishing to buy and slaughter them for the festival in line with Allah’s injunction.
Alaya charged the traders to do their business with the fear of God and not worsen the current economic hardship in the country.
“Sellers of essential items such as foodstuffs, ingredients, clothing materials and basic needs should fear Allah in dealing with buyers during this period and beyond,” the cleric said.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as the peak of annual festivity in the Islamic world, saying it must be regarded as sacred in practice and celebration.
Alaya, therefore, appealed to Muslims to imbibe the virtues of contentment and eschew extravagant tendencies during the celebration.
NAN reports that major ram markets in Ilorin metropolis have begun to witness an increase in customer turnout as residents intensify preparations for the Eid celebration.
