The affected building, belonging to the United Methodist Church of Nigeria (UMCN), reportedly caved in during a worship service. While no lives were lost, many worshippers sustained injuries in the incident.

Those who were hurt were quickly rushed to the Mutum-Biyu Referral Hospital for medical attention. Others with more serious injuries, including fractures, were taken to a traditional bone setter in the town.

Speaking to reporters, Alhaji Baffa Wanzami, a local bone healer, said he attended to three individuals, among them a young girl, who suffered broken arms and legs due to the collapse.

The force of the storm also damaged nearby houses, leaving residents counting their losses. The incident has raised concerns about the structural integrity of buildings in the area and the community’s level of preparedness for emergencies.

Residents and community leaders are now calling for stricter enforcement of building regulations to prevent future disasters.
