Officials believe the outbreak was caused by the consumption of contaminated rainwater. In response, the state government has established treatment centers and is receiving support from key partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
As part of preventive measures, residents have been advised to boil or treat water before drinking and to maintain proper food hygiene by avoiding unwashed fruits and improperly cooked meals.
Those receiving treatment are not being charged, and surveillance teams have been deployed to affected communities to monitor and contain the spread of the disease.
Health officials have also indicated that the number of new cases has begun to decline, suggesting that efforts to manage the outbreak are yielding positive results.
