In a statement published on the official website of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese government reaffirmed its strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, praising its efforts to steer Nigeria on a development path that reflects the nation’s own priorities and conditions.
During a press briefing on Tuesday in Beijing, the ministry’s spokesperson, Mao Ning, described Nigeria as a long-standing strategic partner and emphasized China’s opposition to any form of foreign interference disguised as concern for religion or human rights. She added that China firmly rejects the use of sanctions or military intimidation against sovereign nations.
The statement comes after the United States issued a warning to Nigeria, hinting at possible military action over alleged persecution of Christians in the country.
Reports also indicated that former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously threatened to send military forces to Nigeria if attacks on Christians continued.
