The arrests were confirmed by INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Ambassador Zango A. Abdu, during a briefing with journalists on Saturday in Bagwai Local Government Area.
Zango said additional arrests could be made to ensure the election proceeds peacefully and assured that those already detained would face prosecution. He also commended the security operatives, noting that areas previously destabilised by the thugs had been secured and that voting was continuing peacefully in those locations.
He described the election as largely peaceful, adding that the heavy security presence and regular patrols helped maintain order, and explained that most polling units began accreditation and voting by 8:30 a.m., with only minor delays in some areas due to vehicle issues transporting election materials.
