A 300-level Sociology student at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Umar Abdullahi Hafizi, has been confirmed dead after he was attacked by suspected phone snatchers in Dorayi Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday around 11:00 p.m. when Umar was reportedly ambushed by the assailants who stabbed him and fled with his mobile phone. He later died from injuries sustained during the attack.

Reacting to the development, the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, described the incident as “a painful loss to the University community.” He added that the management of BUK is deeply saddened by Umar’s untimely death and is working in collaboration with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Umar’s remains have been transported to his hometown in Zaria, Kaduna State, where he was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The university has also advised students to be security conscious and called on members of the public to assist authorities with any useful information that may aid the ongoing investigation.
