Bayero University, Kano Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas has approved the appointment of Professor Mustapha Ahmad Isa as the University Orator. Also appointed is Professor Yakubu Magaji Azare, as Assistant University Orator.

Solacebase reports that the appointments of the two erudite scholars were contained in two separate letters dated 19 January, 2023 and signed by the Registrar, Malam Jamil Ahmad Salim.

It said the two appointees would serve for a period of two-years each with effect from 19 January, 2023.

According to the terms and conditions of the appointments, the new University Orator will serve as the presenter at Convocation Ceremonies of the University and may also act in the same capacity at other academic activities, such as Inductions, Conferment of Honorary Degrees, Investitures, Inaugurations and such other ceremonies.


It added that he would be responsible to the Vice Chancellor in conducting the affairs of the University Ceremonies and also required to report to the Vice Chancellor from time to time.

The new University Orator is a Professor of English and the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS). He was also the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.

Professor Yakubu Magaji Azare, the Assistant University Orator, is the Director, Centre for Research in Nigerian Languages, Translation & Folklore. A Professor of Linguistics, Azare is expected to assist the University Orator at Convocation Ceremonies and other academic rituals.
