Garba, who hails from Azare in Bauchi State, brings over three decades of experience in journalism, public relations, and governance. He began his career in 1993 as a correspondent with the New Nigerian Newspapers, covering key events in Kaduna, Bauchi, Kano, and Jigawa States. He later held notable roles, including Head of Strategic Communication at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission and Head of the Information Division at the National Examinations Council (NECO).

A graduate of Bayero University Kano, Garba holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mass Communication, as well as a second Master’s in Development Studies. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Mass Communication at the same institution.

He is also affiliated with several professional bodies such as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), African Public Relations Association (APRA), and the Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN).

Garba’s contributions to BUK span nearly a decade, during which he has helped enhance institutional communication and public engagement. He has also served as a two-term Chairman of the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ.

As Director of Public Affairs, Garba will oversee the university’s media relations, communication strategies, and public engagement initiatives. The Vice-Chancellor has urged him to bring fresh energy to the institution’s image and stakeholder relations.
