Residents of Kano and supporters of the 15th Emir Bayero staged protest against the dissolution of five emirates created by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Daily News reports that Mr Bayero was deposed on Wednesday after Governor Abba Yusuf signed a new law abolishing the Kano emirate under his rulership as well as four other emirates in Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye.

Governor Yusuf had reinstated the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, who was dethroned by Mr Ganduje in 2020, as the new emir.

The protest erupted after the supporters performed special prayers in favour of Emir Aminu Bayero.
