“The cheque presentation is part of the Group Life Assurance Benefits and IGP Family Welfare Insurance Schemes, an initiative by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to support families and next of kin of deceased police officers who died while in active service,” the statement read.

The presentation took place on October 21, 2024, at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri.

The statement further revealed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP A.M. Bello, presented the cheques on behalf of the Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP M.L. Yusufu. The total sum of ₦60.5 million was given to 34 families of fallen or injured officers.

While presenting the cheques, DCP Bello expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for his commitment to the welfare of officers and urged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the funds to improve their lives.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Jagila Bitrus, expressed her gratitude to the IGP and the police management for their continuous support since her sister’s passing, pledging to use the funds responsibly.
