Several worshippers lost their lives on Wednesday when an explosive device went off inside a mosque at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

Security analyst Zagazola disclosed on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday that the blast occurred as worshippers were performing their prayers, triggering panic and confusion across the busy market. Eyewitnesses reported that part of the mosque was destroyed, killing some people instantly and leaving others injured.
Traders and residents fled the area as thick smoke rose from the mosque, while some rushed to help victims before emergency responders arrived.
Security personnel quickly cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties and to conduct an initial assessment of the incident.
Authorities have not yet released an official count of the dead and injured.
