The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has revealed that the federal government has resolved to build a 100 megawatt solar power station in each state of northern Nigeria.
This announcement followed the prolonged massive blackout that has hit about 17 northern states after terrorists attacked the 330-Kva Shiroro-Kaduna power transmission infrastructure.
The blackout has forced dozens of large scale industries to close and layoff workers, while small scale businesses incur heavy losses that threatens their existence.
Mr Adelabu, who spoke to journalists after meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the decision was made in order to resolve the recurrent power shortage in the region.
He added that electricity customers in northern Nigeria would not be charged for energy for the number of days affected by the power outage.

The minister also explained that President Tinubu has enlisted the support of his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila in getting security agencies to secure the electricity workers who have been deployed to fix the faulty electricity infrastructure.
On Monday, the Northern Governors Forum, under the leadership of its Chairman, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state had held a meeting with other leaders to find a way to resolve the regions myriad challenges.
Mr Yahaya said there are plans for northern states to also generate their own electricity so as to support industrialization and reduce insecurity and youth restiveness.
