Best Choice Specialist Hospital in Kano has slashed its service charges by 50 percent and scrapped file opening fees in a bid to make healthcare more affordable for residents.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Auwal Muhammad Lawal, revealed this in an interview on Tuesday. He said the decision followed growing concerns and complaints from patients about the high cost of medical services.

According to him, investigations by the hospital’s management revealed that many patients either discharged themselves prematurely or avoided visiting the hospital altogether due to financial constraints.
“We realized some patients couldn’t stay until they were properly discharged, while others simply avoided coming because of the cost,” Lawal said. “This motivated us to introduce a more affordable fee structure and scrap file opening charges entirely.”
New pricing structure
The revised charges, aimed at making services more accessible, include:
- File opening: Free (previously N20,000 for individuals and N40,000 for families)
- Consultation: N5,000 (previously N10,000)
- Admission:
- VIP Room – N35,000 (was N70,000)
- Amenity Room – N25,000 (was N50,000)
- General Ward – N12,500 (was N25,000)
- Antenatal: N80,000 (was N150,000)
- Delivery: N80,000 (was N150,000)
- Caesarean Section (CS): N300,000 (was N600,000)
Commitment to affordable quality care
Lawal emphasized that despite the fee reduction, the hospital remains committed to providing top-quality healthcare. He noted that the hospital is equipped with modern facilities and staffed by experienced professionals who offer a range of services including consultations, diagnostics, surgeries, and emergency care.
He added that Best Choice Hospital will continue to prioritize patient comfort and safety while upholding its mission to serve the community with compassion.
Meanwhile, the hospital has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, the Kano State government, and the wider African community. “We pray for Allah’s mercy on his soul and good health for the living,” the management said.
