Bauchi State Government says it has established 16 new primary schools to decongest classrooms in Bauchi metropolis.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday in Bauchi.

Tilde said the schools were established at strategic locations within and outskirts of the Bauchi town, especially in areas densely populated with school age children.

He said that the government would also establish 22 additional primary schools to be known as Merit Schools, to promote academic engagements and competition among pupils.

This, he said, was part of efforts to enhance teaching and learning, just as 1,200 teachers were trained on the methodology of teaching science subjects.

He listed the subjects to include Physics, Chemistry and Biology, noting that the training was conducted across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The Commissioner said that 18,000 copies of science textbooks were distributed to the teachers, to enhance their pedagogical skills.

“We have trained 2,720 female head teachers and school principals on techniques of administering record keeping and school census form,” he said.

NAN reports that the state government had recently procured 248 Biometric Data Capture machines, to monitor teachers’ punctuality. (NAN)
