Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has cautioned politicians in the North West that voters will hold them accountable for the region’s hardships in the 2027 general election.

Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned from his position in the Presidency, made the remarks following the North West chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsement of Tinubu for a second term.

The endorsement was announced by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, during a meeting that saw House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas propose the motion, which was seconded by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris. The party also offered automatic second-term tickets to APC governors in the region.

Reacting to the development, Baba-Ahmed criticised the move, saying the decision reflected a growing disconnect between political leaders and the people.

He noted that the endorsement overlooked the suffering, insecurity, and poverty affecting the region, suggesting that politicians are more focused on retaining power than addressing the pressing issues faced by their constituents.
