Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticised the military honours accorded to Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, calling it a violation of Nigeria’s long-standing military traditions and protocols.

In a statement released on Sunday by his media office and signed by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku condemned a viral video showing Seyi Tinubu receiving a formal military parade from a group identified as the Nigeria Cadet Network.
He argued that such honours are reserved exclusively for designated public officials and accused the group of undermining the sanctity of the Armed Forces.
Atiku further questioned the legitimacy of the Nigeria Cadet Network, highlighting that preliminary findings suggest it is not a recognised body within the Nigerian military. He also raised concerns over the group’s use of firearms amid the nation’s ongoing struggle against illegal arms proliferation.
The former Vice President called for an investigation into three critical areas: the authenticity of the Nigeria Cadet Network, the legality of the firearms displayed during the parade, and the appropriateness of extending military honours to a private citizen.
He stressed the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the Armed Forces to maintain public trust. “If any laws were broken, it is the duty of security agencies to ensure accountability,” Atiku stated.
