The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has put its planned strike on hold following the late disbursement of salaries for June 2025.
The decision was taken after members began receiving their payments before the midnight deadline on Sunday, July 7.

Chairman of the University of Abuja branch, Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh, confirmed on Tuesday that the union decided to suspend its intended industrial action once the salaries reflected in members’ accounts.
Prior to the payment, the union’s National Executive Council had resolved to implement a “No Pay, No Work” policy due to repeated salary delays, which they attributed to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
ASUU leadership had accused the federal government of being indifferent to the welfare of lecturers. The union maintained that the delay was not caused by any fault in the payment platform, but rather by intentional withholding of funds by government authorities.
In addition to salary concerns, ASUU is also pressing for the payment of an outstanding N10 billion in Earned Academic Allowance, which it says has remained unpaid despite previous agreements.
The union, however, warned that while the strike has been suspended, it remains watchful and may resume action if delays continue.
