The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, has demanded the immediate removal of Professor Ahmad Adamu as Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council.

The union said Adamu’s continued role as Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while chairing the council in Kano, creates a conflict of interest that undermines transparency and institutional growth.

In a petition sent to the Minister of Education, the union accused the council of violating statutory provisions by attempting to appoint a new Vice Chancellor through irregular means. It also criticized the repositioning of Dr. Sadi Mohammed Sirajo as acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, describing the move as a calculated effort to install a preferred candidate without following due process.

ASUU alleged that these developments are part of a broader plan to derail the university’s upgrade and transition process. The union said the governing council, as presently constituted, lacks the required representation from key statutory bodies such as the Senate, Congregation, and Convocation, and called for its reconstitution.

Further, the union accused Dr. Sirajo of overstaying his legal tenure and playing a role in obstructing reforms meant to reposition the institution. It urged the federal government to launch an investigation into what it described as fraudulent administrative practices and to ensure those responsible face appropriate sanctions.

ASUU also demanded the restoration of all staff promotions, allowances, and entitlements allegedly withheld under the current leadership, stressing the need for fairness and accountability in managing the affairs of the university.
