According to a credible source at Army Headquarters, the arrests were carried out between September 26 and 28 during intelligence-led operations. The operation was triggered after troops intercepted suspicious movements of military-grade weapons along a known terror supply route in Borno, which led to a sting operation that exposed the suspects.
The duo was found in possession of rifles, ammunition, and communication devices, all linking them to a wider supply network now under investigation. They are currently in military custody, undergoing interrogation and disciplinary procedures before being transferred for prosecution.
In addition to the high-profile arrests, troops also intensified their counter-terrorism operations across different states. A suspected Boko Haram collaborator was captured in Baga, Borno, while three motorcycles loaded with 32 jerry cans of petrol were intercepted in Mubi South, Adamawa. In Katsina’s Kankara Local Government Area, troops of 17 Brigade arrested a suspected logistics supplier and an informant believed to have connections with an arms dealer linked to a terrorist operative identified as Babaru.
The operations also saw the rescue of several kidnap victims, though one suspect escaped by scaling a fence as troops closed in.
Military authorities have described the breakthrough as a crucial step in dismantling insider collusion within the security system and disrupting supply channels that fuel terrorism.
