The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has strongly condemned the recent deadly attack on Yelwata community in Benue State, describing it as gruesome and senseless, and calling for an urgent review of current security measures.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor T. A. Muhammad-Baba, the forum expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, particularly among women, children, and the elderly. It prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and comfort for their grieving families.

The forum noted that the persistent conflict between farmers and herders continues to claim lives and threatens peace and stability in the region. It observed that the latest attack came just days after the Chief of Army Staff relocated to Benue State to tackle insecurity, suggesting that the present approach is ineffective and requires strategic changes.

Calling for a more proactive response, the ACF stressed the importance of improved intelligence gathering and community vigilance to prevent further violence. It also urged the people of Benue to resist the temptation of hatred, encouraging them to embrace peace, empathy, and reconciliation.

The forum commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his ongoing efforts to foster peace but insisted that those behind the killings must be held accountable. It also called on religious and traditional leaders to play active roles in promoting harmony and discouraging hate speech and violence.

The ACF concluded with prayers for the return of peace, mutual understanding, and social cohesion in Benue State and across the country.
