The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the local government elections held on Saturday.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of OGSIEC, Babatunde Osibodu, early on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

According to Osibodu, the APC secured all 20 local government chairmanship seats and won in 236 councillorship wards across the state. He noted, “A total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship elections across the 20 local government areas.”

He also highlighted that 19 political parties participated in the elections, including the Accord Party, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and others.

Despite the declaration of results, several opposition parties have voiced their discontent. The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Chairman in Ogun State, Femi Aina, questioned the integrity of the election, describing it as chaotic.

He urged the state House of Assembly to summon OGSIEC officials for an explanation, stating, “OGSIEC has questions to answer. Why were people allowed to vote with business cards? What about the inadequate ballot papers and the late arrival of officials? There was no election, just a corrupt exercise. NNPP totally rejects the results because the process was entirely unfair.”

Similarly, the Labour Party’s state chairman, Lookman Jagun, rejected the election results, describing the process as a sham. “We completely reject any results declared in this sham of an election. The good people of Ogun State have expressed their opinions on radio and television that there was no election,” Jagun said.

He called for the cancellation of the results, warning that the party would challenge the outcome in court if OGSIEC fails to comply.

Echoing these sentiments, the PDP Secretary in Ogun State, Dr. Sunday Solarin, criticized the election process, labeling it a “sham” and accusing APC thugs of attacking opposition members during the exercise.
