The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has set conditions for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s potential return, warning that the party will not serve as a refuge for politicians attempting to avoid accountability, especially those seeking to escape corruption allegations.

According to a press release signed by the state party chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Abbas, ward chapters across Kano have been directed to begin registering new members from other political parties.
This directive comes amid growing speculation about the possible defection of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of a faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), into the APC.
Describing the development as welcome but not without conditions, the APC said it remains open to new entrants under its “Renewed Hope” agenda. However, Abbas emphasized that the party would not offer safe passage to individuals who have “scuttled their political goodwill” or are attempting to avoid prosecution by anti-graft agencies like the EFCC and ICPC.
“The APC remains Kwankwaso’s last political refuge, as he has destroyed his relations with all other political groupings in the country,” the statement read. “But joining the APC is not a panacea for escaping one’s past sins.”
The party assured that both old and new members would enjoy equal rights to vote and contest for internal and elective positions. It also reaffirmed that all existing party officials at the ward, local government, senatorial, and state levels would continue to function according to their tenures as outlined in the APC constitution.
In addition, the party issued a stern reminder that cult-like associations operating under the guise of political groups would not be tolerated within the APC structure.
On a final note, the APC called on prospective defectors who had previously made derogatory remarks against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to publicly apologize. The party said such gestures would demonstrate remorse and show readiness for future cooperation.
