The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vanguard has strongly opposed alleged moves by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to join the party, calling it a deceptive and unwelcome maneuver.
Daily News 24 reports this is contained in a statement signed by the group’s spokesman, Comrade Maikor Markus Galadima, and issued in Jos on Saturday. The group described the governor’s alleged attempt to defect to the APC as “an insult to the people of Plateau” and “a threat to the party’s progressive values.”

The APC Vanguard accused Mutfwang of running the state with what it called “reckless incompetence” despite receiving over N200 billion from the Federation Account in less than two years. The group claimed the administration had failed to provide basic services, citing poor conditions in the health, education, and infrastructure sectors.
They also raised concerns over the state’s security situation, pointing to continued violence in Bokkos, Riyom, Mangu, and Bassa local government areas as evidence of the government’s alleged failure to protect lives and property.
According to the statement, the governor’s leadership has been marred by “nepotism, corruption, and marginalization,” with appointments and contracts allegedly being awarded based on ethnicity and personal connections.
The group further alleged that the administration had failed to maintain transparency in its financial dealings, claiming the government had not published details of the state’s internally generated revenue or spending for the past two years.
Citing arrests of opposition members and what it called the governor’s frequent travels, the APC Vanguard accused Mutfwang of abandoning governance, adding that “Plateau State currently suffers from a disturbing absence of executive leadership.”
The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s National Working Committee to reject any plans by the governor to join the ruling party, warning that such a move would tarnish the party’s image.
Despite the criticism, the APC Vanguard said the party remains strong in Plateau, noting that several political figures, including a former director general of Mutfwang’s campaign, had defected to the APC in recent times.
They urged the governor to remain in his current political party and face the people of Plateau, saying the APC “does not need the baggage of failure and scandal.”
