Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) living with disabilities in Kano State have called on President Bola Tinubu to promptly appoint a minister for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to address their pressing concerns amid the current economic challenges.

Speaking at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday, the group’s chairman, Yahaya Yahaya, urged the president to consider appointing Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho for the role.

Yahaya emphasized Tejuosho’s extensive background in social work and her experience with people with disabilities, making her, according to him, an ideal candidate to lead the ministry.

“Halimat Tejuosho’s experience in working with people with disabilities over the years makes her the right personality to take over from where the former minister left off,” Yahaya said.

The group expressed worry over the current hardship caused by the rising cost of fuel, stressing that people with disabilities are disproportionately affected. They fear that the absence of a minister to address their welfare will only worsen their struggles.

This is the second time in three months that the group has called for the appointment of a substantive minister for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, which they say is vital to the APC-led government’s support for the vulnerable.
