The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has accused the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) of obstructing the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate hunger in the state.

The APC criticized NNPP leader Rabi’u Kwankwaso for condemning the Federal Government’s approach to distributing palliatives in the region.

The APC asserts that while the Federal Government is dedicated to mitigating hunger, the NNPP-led administration in Kano is hindering these efforts.

State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas made this assertion in a statement posted on his X handle.

Abbas also challenged Kwankwaso’s claim that the distribution exercise was exclusively managed by the APC.

He clarified, “The reconstituted committee by the Federal Government is under the leadership of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, with membership from the All Progressives Congress, New Nigeria People’s Party, Peoples Democratic Party, Inter-Party Advisory Council, Senator Rufa’i Hanga, Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, members of the House of Representatives, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, the State deputy governor, traditional and religious leaders, among others.”

He explained that the bipartisan committee had developed detailed procedures for distributing the palliatives to avoid diversion and ensure that the aid reached those most in need.

According to Abbas, the Federal Government’s decision to adopt a new distribution method was due to President Bola Tinubu’s dissatisfaction with the previous system.

Abbas stated that President Tinubu had approved various palliative measures for impoverished and vulnerable households, but that those tasked with distribution were misappropriating the aid.

He alleged that “The scandalous escapades that enmeshed senior officials of the NNPP government brought to the fore how the palliatives could not reach the targeted poor and the vulnerable.”

The APC chairman urged Kwankwaso “to tell his anointed governor to launch an investigation into these acts of irresponsibility, by ensuring that perpetrators account for all the missing palliatives and also prosecuted.”
