The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, during a press briefing held at the Bompai police headquarters on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

According to Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended by police operatives in collaboration with vigilante members while attempting to abduct a 35-year-old resident.

“On 09/11/2024 at about 6:00 p.m., a team of police operatives, in collaboration with vigilante members of Danshoshiya Village, Kwanar Dangora, arrested two suspected kidnappers; Haruna Abdulsalam and Mandi Snu, while they were trying to kidnap Haruna Abubakar, a 35-year-old resident of the same village,” the Commissioner of Police stated.

However, the situation escalated when aggrieved locals seized the suspects and brutally beat them. The injured suspects were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival. “The suspects were lynched by aggrieved members of the public and were rushed to the hospital, where a doctor confirmed them dead while receiving treatment,” Kiyawa added.

The police have urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle criminal cases properly.
