Mohammed Shehu, Executive Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), revealed on Wednesday that the Nigerian President receives a monthly salary of N1.2 million, while governors receive N1.1 million.
President-elect Bola Tinubu will receive the same salary package as President Muhamamdu Buhari unless the proposed review of the Remuneration Act for elected and designated public officials is passed into law before President Muhamamdu Buhari’s administration ends on May 29.

Shehu revealed that some heads of Federal Government agencies are paid more per month than the president and governors, claiming that no public servant should be paid more than the president or state governors.
These remarks were made at the Economic Confidential public lecture and book presentation in Abuja, which was organized by Economic Confidential, Publishers of PR Nigeria, and Economy Digest.
“Mr President’s salary is N1.2 million per month,” said the RMAFC Chairman. I’m sure some MDA heads make N5 million a month, while others make N2 million. In Nigeria, no public servant should be paid more than the President and the governor of a state.
“National Assembly members who are elected earn N12 million and N8 million, respectively.” All of the money mentioned by some is not their salary.
“There are operational costs and other expenses.” The National Assembly put these funds in as logistics, and they are paid from the system.
“We don’t have the capability to checkmate that.” Only the Nigerian people can call that into question.”
Shehu also pointed out that the salaries of political office holders, as well as other designated public and judicial office holders, were last reviewed in 2008, indicating that a review is long overdue.
Furthermore, he stated that revenue from solid minerals is now shared, with 13% derivation paid to solid minerals-producing states, as is the case with oil-producing states.
