Alleged hacker Sunday Ozimede, 43, has been accused of stealing a whopping N1.1 billion from Moniepoint Microfinance Bank’s vault.

According to the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ozimede and his accomplices, who are still at large, committed the crime in May 2024.

The prosecutor, Justine Enang, alleged that Ozimede planted a bug in the bank’s data system, causing a financial loss of N145 million. He also fraudulently diverted N945 million from customers’ deposited funds to other banks.

Ozimede has been charged with conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, and money laundering. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his lawyer, Abdulmalik Ibrahim, requested bail in the most liberal terms.

However, the prosecutor opposed the bail application, citing Ozimede as a “flight risk.” Despite this, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa granted bail in the sum of N50 million with one surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to March 13
