The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has disbursed over N37 million to families of police officers who lost their lives while on active duty.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, made the presentation on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

A total of N37,280,296.36 was handed over to thirty-three beneficiaries, all of whom are next-of-kin to the deceased officers.
The payment was made under the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes, a welfare initiative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun.


Speaking during the presentation, CP Azare said the gesture serves as a reminder that the sacrifices of the fallen officers will never be forgotten. He commended the Inspector General for prioritizing the welfare of police personnel and their families, even after death.


He added that the police would remain committed to supporting the families of its personnel and urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to honoring the memory of its officers who died in service, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price for the peace and security of the nation.
