Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, requesting a thorough investigation into serious assassination allegations made against him by suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of orchestrating an assassination plot with the involvement of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and current Governor Usman Ododo. According to the claim, the alleged plan was to make it appear as if her constituents were responsible for her death.

Akpabio, however, strongly denied the accusations, calling them a “heinous lie” and a “reckless and deliberate attempt” to damage his reputation.

In a petition dated April 3, 2025, Akpabio demanded the prosecution of Akpoti-Uduaghan for criminal defamation, incitement, and making false accusations. He argued that the allegation was politically motivated and lacked any credible evidence.

The petition, which was also sent to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, calls for swift action to address the matter.

Akpabio expressed concern over the significant damage caused by the allegations, which have been widely circulated across media platforms. He stressed that such false claims were designed to manipulate public opinion and harm both his personal and official standing. He has urged law enforcement agencies to treat the issue with the urgency it warrants.

The Senate President is calling for an immediate investigation into the false accusations, and for Akpoti-Uduaghan to be prosecuted under relevant laws, including those addressing criminal defamation, incitement, false accusations, and actions likely to breach public peace.
