The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed serious concerns regarding the underrepresentation of Kannywood actors and stakeholders in the Nollywood film industry.

During a recent advocacy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, AGN Chairman Alhaji Malami Ibrahim emphasized that very few Kannywood actors have registered with Nollywood.

Malami urged Kannywood stakeholders and actors to register with the Nollywood Film industry, stating that such action would enhance their efficiency and popularity across the nation. He noted, “The relevance of Northern actors in the Nollywood Film industry is significant; they would become much more popular and globally recognized.”

As of now, Malami revealed that approximately 150 Kannywood actors have registered with the AGN, with only 10 having started acting in Nollywood productions.

In response, Abba El-Mustapha expressed gratitude for the AGN’s dedication to unifying the Nigerian film industries. He stated, “I appreciate the AGN’s commitment to bringing together our film industries and thank them for recognizing our Board and Kannywood as worthy of this visit.”

El-Mustapha also expressed his readiness to collaborate with AGN, saying he is committed to positive development in the film sector and is open to working harmoniously with all stakeholders in Nollywood. He concluded, “I will continue to keep my door open for further support and collaboration with the AGN.”
