Some youths in Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State took action against the representative of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Thursday.

The incident occurred as the representative, accompanied by the local government interim chairman, Wada Nababa Tudun-Kaya, was en route to the palace.

According to an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, the situation unfolded peacefully until a group of youths expressed their discontent. “The Emir’s representative arrived in town and was initially welcomed by the interim chairman. However, on their way to formalize his presence, angry youths confronted them,” the witness recounted.

The unrest reflects ongoing sentiments following the dissolution of several emirates, including that of Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II, the former Emir of Karaye, who was among those affected by the state government’s decision.

“There was an incident where the vehicle’s window was broken, though the overall situation did not escalate into violence,” the witness clarified. “Fortunately, the nearby police station intervened swiftly, dispersing the crowd and restoring calm.”

Lawyers, activists applaud Court verdict reinstating Emir Ado Bayero

Recall that Daily New 24 reported how the National Coalition of Northern Lawyers and a group of activists under the aegis of Public Interest Activists (NCNLPIA) lauded the Federal High Court ruling in Kano that reinstated Alhaji Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano.

Mr. Napoleon Otache, convener of NCNLPIA, praised the court on in Abuja for upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of traditional institutions. He said at a news conference that “the ruling was a victory for justice, truth, and the people of Kano State.”

Otache emphasized that the judgment vindicates the widespread belief in the illegality of the Kano State Government’s decision to dissolve the Kano Emirates. He urged Governor Abba Yusuf to apologize to Emir Ado Bayero for the humiliation and embarrassment caused by his dethronement and the unlawful dissolution of the Kano Emirates. “The judgment vindicates the popular stance on the illegality of the Kano State Government in dissolving the Kano Emirates,” he said.
