The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has again summoned Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, over allegations of criminal defamation linked to the 2024 suspension of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

In a letter dated May 23, 2025, and addressed to the Secretary to the State Government, the IGP directed that Dawakin-Tofa appear before SP Mojirode B. Obisiji at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on May 29. The letter, signed by DCP Akin Fakorede of the IGP Monitoring Unit, stated that the police are investigating allegations including defamation, impersonation, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Ganduje was suspended in 2024 by the APC Ganduje Ward executive over alleged anti-party activities. He accused Dawakin-Tofa who is from the same locality, of masterminding the move with support from the NNPP-led state government.

In December 2024, the IGP had ordered Dawakin-Tofa’s arrest, but a Kano High Court issued an injunction restraining the police and other security agencies from arresting or harassing him. The case was later dismissed, prompting an appeal by Dawakin-Tofa’s lawyer.

Their feud dates back to 2015, when Ganduje reportedly ordered Dawakin-Tofa’s arrest over political opposition.
