Reports indicate that the deceased student was carrying the explosive device when it went off.

Earlier in the day, the school had held a resumption assembly to welcome newly admitted students, who resumed on January 3, 2025.

Emergency responders, including a police bomb disposal squad, swiftly arrived at the scene, and the injured students were taken to a hospital for urgent medical care.

Authorities are currently investigating how the student obtained the explosive device and the events leading to the tragic explosion.

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has yet to release an official statement. Efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful.
