The Court of Appeal in Abuja has scheduled April 8, 2025, to hear and decide on cases concerning the local government elections held across Kano State’s 44 Local Government Areas.

The date was set after the court considered several motions related to the case, following a legal challenge against the elections.

The Kano State House of Assembly had approached the appellate court to challenge a Federal High Court ruling that halted the conduct of local government elections in the state since October 2024. The lawmakers argued that the lower court lacked jurisdiction over the matter, insisting that the case filed by Aminu Aliyu Tiga and the All Progressives Congress (APC) was legally flawed and time-barred.

The legal dispute stems from an October 22, 2024, ruling by Justice Simon Amobeda, which barred the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission from organizing elections for chairmen and councillors until all legal conditions were met.

Unhappy with the decision, the House of Assembly filed an appeal, urging the Court of Appeal to overturn the judgment. It argued that the conduct of local government elections is solely the responsibility of the Kano State Government.
