The Supreme Court has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), setting aside the rulings of the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal in Enugu.

Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Jamilu Tukur, who led a five-member panel, ruled that the lower courts lacked jurisdiction to interfere in the internal affairs of a political party. The court held that such matters were non-justiciable.

The apex court also found that the plaintiff, Aniagu Emmanuel, had no legal standing to challenge Anyanwu’s position, as he failed to demonstrate how the appointment affected him.

Anyanwu had approached the Supreme Court to contest the lower courts’ decisions, emphasizing the urgency of resolving the matter due to the crucial role of the National Secretary in PDP’s operations.

His reinstatement follows earlier endorsements by the party’s Board of Trustees and National Working Committee in favor of Chief Okoye, based on prior court rulings. However, Anyanwu had dismissed those endorsements, maintaining that the matter was still in court.
