Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, announced this on Thursday while addressing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting. He stated that the increment acknowledges the significant contributions of tertiary institution staff to the state’s education sector and overall development. Waiya added that the decision reflects the government’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare and advancing its educational reform initiatives.

In addition to the salary adjustment, the state government has earmarked N3.3 billion for various developmental projects across Kano. These include road maintenance, infrastructure improvements, electrical upgrades, healthcare services, energy bill payments, and education sector enhancements.

Among the specific allocations, N148.9 million has been set aside for road maintenance at the School of Technology by the Kano Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA), while N367.9 million has been allocated as an advance payment for the expansion of Zaria Road. The government has also approved N612.4 million for the conversion of external electrical infrastructure to an underground system at the Government House.

For the health sector, N184 million has been designated for the procurement of two ambulances, one each for the Government House Clinic and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital. The government has also committed N348 million to settle energy bills owed to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for November and December 2024.

Furthermore, N662 million has been allocated to fund the feeding of students in boarding schools for the third to fifth weeks of the ongoing academic term. Additionally, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has been granted N100 million to host its Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Kano.
