The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked 4,794 land titles due to owners’ failure to pay ground rent for over 10 years.

The affected properties are in Central Area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape, with a total outstanding debt of N6.96 billion as of 2024.

Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Lands at the FCTA, stated that payment of ground rent is mandatory and due annually on January 1. Property owners with debts ranging from one to ten years have been given a 21-day ultimatum to settle their dues or lose their titles.

The affected areas include:

  • Central Area District (Cadastral Zone A00)
  • Garki I and II (Cadastral Zones A01 and A03)
  • Wuse I and II (Cadastral Zones A02 and A07)
  • Asokoro (Cadastral Zone A04)
  • Maitama (Cadastral Zones A05 and A06)
  • Guzape (Cadastral Zone A09)
