The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rejected the recent tariff hike by telecommunications companies, warning that failure to reverse the decision will lead to nationwide protests.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack Ovye, and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Samson Ajasa Adeyemi, NANS condemned the increase, describing it as an unfair burden on Nigerians, particularly students and youths who rely on telecom services for academics and communication.
The association argued that the hike comes at a difficult time when many citizens are struggling with economic challenges. It accused telecom operators of prioritizing profit over public welfare, warning that the decision undermines affordability and accessibility.
NANS has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the telecom firms, the Minister of Communications, and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to reverse the tariff increase. It warned that failure to comply would result in mass protests demanding accountability and a review of the telecom sector.
The student body urged telecom operators to engage with stakeholders to find a more sustainable solution and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies that protect consumers’ interests.
