The incident happened on Wednesday when Fubara arrived at the premises with Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo and Chief of Staff Edison Ehie. They found the gate locked, preventing their access.

Fubara accused Speaker Martin Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him, citing unanswered calls and an ignored invitation letter.

He maintained that his visit was in the people’s interest and expressed confidence that the lawmakers would eventually respond. After addressing the press, he and his team left the premises.

The Rivers State House of Assembly issued an ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara last week, demanding that he submit the 2025 budget within 48 hours. However, Fubara responded that he is awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a court ruling before proceeding.

In an attempt to resolve the impasse, Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, sent a letter to Speaker Martins Amaewhule on Sunday, inviting lawmakers to discuss the Supreme Court judgment. The proposed meeting aims to address pressing issues, including the budget presentation and outstanding salary payments for legislators, in an effort to ease the state’s political tensions.
