A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Sylvester Okechukwa, has been killed by his abductors in Kaduna, heightening concerns over the region’s insecurity.

Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, confirmed that Okechukwa was kidnapped from his residence on Tuesday night and murdered in the early hours of Wednesday.
While details surrounding the killing remain unclear, Shanet described the slain priest as a devoted servant of God who was committed to his community.
In a statement, Shanet urged the public to remain calm and avoid resorting to violence. He assured that funeral arrangements for the late priest would be communicated in due course.
