A statement from the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, signed by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, confirmed the directive on Thursday.

According to Professor Junaidu, Friday marks the 29th day of Sha’aban 1446AH, making it the designated time for moon sighting. Muslims who sight the crescent are advised to report to their local District or Village head for further communication.

Meanwhile, the League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the commencement of Ramadan fasting in the region, stating that its decision aligns with astronomical calculations and is not meant to challenge the authority of the Sultan.
