Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed that he inherited a staggering N8.9 billion debt upon assuming office. He disclosed this on Wednesday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Ganduje explained that the debt, amounting to N8,987,874,663, stemmed from legal battles, including election petitions and appeals at different levels—legislative, governorship, and presidential.

Despite the burden, he assured party members that Prof. Abdul Kareem Kana, the APC National Legal Adviser, is working to reduce the liabilities. He also appealed to the NEC for intervention to ease the financial strain.

The high-profile meeting was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

Ganduje, who became APC chairman on August 3, 2023, reiterated his commitment to strengthening internal democracy, implementing a scientific party membership register, and improving election management and conflict resolution within the party.

The extension of Ganduje’s tenure was approved during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with President Bola Tinubu presiding over the session.
