Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a strong warning to schoolteachers across the state, instructing them not to assign students any form of manual labour within or outside school grounds.

The directive was made clear in a statement released on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the primary role of schools is to provide education and moral guidance, not to burden students with hard labour.

His warning followed an unexpected visit to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano, where the governor was shocked to find students engaged in digging a toilet pipeline. Upon confronting the headmaster, it was revealed that the task had been assigned to students after school hours. Governor Yusuf immediately ordered that such practices cease without delay.

Addressing the infrastructure needs of the school, the governor assured the management that his administration would oversee the renovation of all deteriorating structures, including the school mosque.

He further directed that all future school projects be submitted to the Ministry of Education or directly to his office to ensure proper execution.
