The violence which erupted on Friday after Imran and his colleagues pursued a suspected drug dealer, whose vehicle reversed, killing at least three people, as reported by SaharaReporters.

As tensions grew, Imran attempted to calm the crowd but was attacked and stabbed. A police officer rushed him to a nearby hospital, but the mob stormed the facility, dragged Imran out, and set him on fire.

The commander of the operation, along with other officers, reportedly left the scene, leaving Imran behind. Imran, who had recently married in December, was buried on Saturday. During the ceremony, his wife reportedly fainted from grief.

The family has accused the NDLEA of neglect, claiming the agency failed to offer condolences or compensation. A source from the agency alleged that this is not the first time the NDLEA has covered up incidents involving the deaths of officers.

The NDLEA has confirmed the incident but denied the family’s claims of neglect. Spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated that the agency’s chairman is in contact with the family, and a delegation has been sent to offer support.

According to him, the commander involved has been suspended pending a full investigation.
