Angry youths in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have set a police station on fire following the alleged death of a young man, Tobi Bobade, who was reportedly tortured while in police custody.

According to eyewitness accounts, Bobade was arrested by officers from the Ifon Police Division, led by an inspector, after intervening in a fight between two families on Ogbomo Street. However, tensions escalated when news spread that he had died, allegedly due to police brutality. Enraged by the incident, youths stormed the police station and set it ablaze in protest.

In response, the Ondo State Police Command denied that Bobade died in their custody, stating that he passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital. The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, condemned the attack on the station and ordered a thorough investigation into both the alleged police brutality and the arson.

Afolabi, who met with local stakeholders, including the Local Government Chairman and community leaders, extended his condolences to the bereaved family but warned against acts of lawlessness. He assured the public that security forces would remain vigilant to prevent further unrest.

In reaction, the Ondo State Government has pledged to investigate the matter and ensure that justice prevails.
